Blogging About Blogs — The Best of the Social Bunch

Social Media Examiner, the world’s largest online social media magazine, ranked the Top 10 Social Media Blogs of 2012.  The publication’s panel of social media experts carefully reviewed the nominees and finalists, analyzing the quality of their content, the frequency of posts and reader involvement (among other things).

The DigitalEYE Media team thought we’d revisit this list to share the best of the best.  Enjoy the read.

#1: Social Mouths

Social Mouths, the brainchild of Francisco Rosales, provides deep and honest looks at social media marketing and trends that impact our industry.  The site contains detailed posts with real-world examples, and addresses new and difficult topics.  Social Mouths is Rosales’ vehicle to deliver free advice on what it takes to be successful online. He mostly talks about blogging, social media, Web traffic, content marketing, conversion and email marketing.  The goal is to provide massive value on a weekly basis with a “0% bullshit attitude.”

#2: ViralBlog

ViralBlog provides a daily stream of social media trends and inspiration through case studies and other interesting articles.  The collaborative team of viral bloggers haunts the globe for great viral and social media cases every day.  Visitors tune in to get a daily shot of viral ideas, trends and inspiration at ViralBlog. ViralBlog.com is ranked in the AdAge Power 150 as a top media and marketing blog.

#3: Jeff Bullas

Jeff Bullas takes a close look at how businesses can get found online through social media. The site has excellent content with solid social media insights. This blog is about all things to do with Social Media and Online Marketing, including Twitter, Blogging, Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, SEO and inbound and content marketing. The blog’s focus is to assist business in “Getting Found Online” in a digital world and making a company successful.

#4: Hubze

Hubze has built an audience by focusing on social media trends and tips on social media marketing tactics.  The site contains a nice variety of media, including articles and podcasts. This social media company has great tools to help companies brand themselves on sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

#5: The Sales Lion

The Sales Lion from Marcus Sheridan is a blog that seeks to build community around inbound marketing, blogging, business and life. The site fosters strong community with great participation through comments. The Sales Lion, one of the best dang marketing, business and life-success blogs on the internet.  What makes Marcus different? “If I teach it, I’ve lived it.”

#6: Pushing Social

Pushing Social from Stanford Smith provides practical blogging tips and resources from a fresh perspective. The site contains creative, informative and readable posts with deeper-than-average advice.  Pushing Social is evolving into a destination for people who are inspired by Social business.

#7: Heidi Cohen

Heidi Cohen provides intelligent insights on social media tactics and trends, all while making the complex simple.  The site contains comprehensive and thoughtful content. Heidi Cohen’s blog provides marketing related insights grounded in digital and direct marketing.

#8: MarketingTech Blog

MarketingTech blog provides a technology-focused approach to new media marketing.  Douglas Karr is the founder of The Marketing Technology Blog. On a daily basis, the team is reviewing hundreds of sources of marketing data and sharing that data through our marketing and client channels. They utilize alerts, social monitoring and readers to find and review content – and then push that content to audiences and customers using tools like Hootsuite and Buffer to share that data. The site covers a variety of topics and media, including radio and video.

#9: Likeable Media

Likeable Media keeps readers current on industry trends and new tools while also providing strategies and tactics for using Facebook and social media marketing. The site contains very current information on new tools and platforms.  This is a social media leveraging and word-of-mouth marketing entity with 200+ clients and offices in three cities.   Mission: To leverage social media and WOMM to create more transparent, responsive likeable companies, organizations and governments.

#10: SplashMedia

SplashMedia provides interesting takes on strategy, tips and trends, while their SplashCasts offer some great success stories.  The site features great use of a video show as well as diverse postings with good in-depth content.  SplashMedia is one of the largest full-service social media marketing agencies in the country.
